Hack: Luna Jacket

One of my all-time favourite creations is this Luna Jacket Dress with a ruffled sleeve! I made it over a year ago around the time Papercut Patterns released their Sakura Collection. I was inspired to make this dress when I saw THIS purple runway look by Stella McCartney and thought it would be a fun DIY project! Little did I know it would become one of my most worn handmade creations.

I did have to make a number of alterations to get the look I was imagining but the pattern made that really easy. I made the largest size, lengthened the hem as far as my fabric would allow and I omitted the ties and pockets. With the fabric remaining, I made one long skinny belt to wrap around my waist, just how I like it! I also added ruffles to the sleeve join which I think just takes the whole piece to another level. I’m all about outfit DRAMA. The ruffles are just rectangles that I pieced together with my remaining fabric.

No surprises here, but I chose a Liberty Tana Lawn from The Fabric Store for this DIY recreation. I wish I had got my hands on some more before it sold out because I love the print and colour combination so much. Can you imagine me…wearing this dress…over a slip dress…made in the same fabric? I CAN!

I think this Ruffle Sleeved Luna Dress will continue to be on high rotation in my wardrobe because there are just so many ways to wear it. Lately, I’ve worn it over a turtleneck and jeans but in summer I love to roll the sleeves up and throw it on over a simple slip dress. I’m already thinking up new outfit combinations for this piece when the temp starts to warm up!
